In my state, Connecticut, there have been several proposed laws recently that are directly aimed at taking rights away from parents. As a mother, I am extremely bothered by this. Seeing as we have chosen to home school to sensor our children from the government education that is beyond blatantly anti-Christian, this bothers me deeply. Here is what the leader of HSLDA has to say about all that has been proposed.
"...there is a third wave [of persecution] coming. And I doubt that many of you have any idea of the intensity and breadth of the elitist movement that is taking dead aim at our movement. This time, they are armed with an argument that is essentially true...[that] Christian homeschooling parents are effectively transmitting values to their children that the elitists believe are dangerous to the well-being of both these very children and society as a whole." Mike Farris, Chairman of HSLDA
Scary and sad and so, so true. The government is scared of the Christian movement that is beginning to rise (mostly because we are sick of being told we are wrong, evil, hateful freaks!)
Here is my opinion on why and how this persecution came to be:
Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Jeremiah 29:6
That's right. It's our own fault. The 2 child family is the problem. The mantra "A boy for me a girl for you and thank the Lord 'cause now we're through" is the problem.
The Lord sent us into this world and told us to be fruitful and multiply. He told this to Adam and Eve (Gen 1:22), to Noah (Gen 9:1,7) and to the Israelites as they headed into exile (Jer 29:6). He wants us to out number the non-believers. He wants us to multiply greatly, as Voddie Baucham says.
So why have we chosen to dwindle away? Why have we chosen to ignore His will for us, His commands to us? If we would shrug the desires of this world for "stuff" and turn our backs on this materialistic, self centered culture than these type of things will be far less likely to happen since there will be more followers of Jesus than not. We would be in the majority, not the pagan nation that surrounds us.
Me? I choose to obey the Lord's commands. I choose to add as many arrows into the Lord's quiver (Psalm 127:4-5) as he would gift me with.
